Diwali School Holidays 2025: Diwali season brings happiness, lights and sweets as well as holiday gifts for school children. This year too, many states have declared holidays in schools in view of the festivals. Children in Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Karnataka will now be able to enjoy several days off from school on the occasion of Diwali.
Holidays started earlier in Rajasthan
Rajasthan Education Department had earlier fixed Diwali holidays from October 16 to October 27, but now it has been changed from October 13 to October 24, 2025. Diwali holidays have started in schools of Rajasthan. Students will get continuous holidays from Sunday 12th October to 24th October.
Diwali and Chhath Puja holidays together in Bihar
As per the official holiday calendar of Bihar government, schools will remain closed from October 20 to October 29, 2025. These holidays will cover both Diwali and Chhath Puja. During this period, students will not only be able to celebrate festivals but will also be able to participate in puja and traditional events with their families.
Four days Diwali break in Uttar Pradesh
Diwali holidays in Uttar Pradesh will be from 20 October to 23 October 2025. There will be holiday on 20th October for Diwali, 22nd October for Govardhan Puja and 23rd October for Bhaiya Dooj. Since October 19 is a Sunday, children will get a total break of five days.
Holidays in advance due to survey in Karnataka
In Karnataka, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had already declared holidays in schools from October 8 to October 18. The reason for this is the ongoing social and educational caste survey in the state. Teachers have been included in this survey, so the government extended the holidays so that they can complete the survey.
When is Diwali in 2025?
This year Diwali will be celebrated on Monday, 20 October 2025. Kartik Amavasya Tithi will start from the afternoon of 20th October and will continue till the evening of 21st October. The auspicious time for Lakshmi Puja will be during Pradosh period. That means the puja will be performed on the evening of 20th October. Like every year, this time too Diwali holidays are most special for children. This is the time to celebrate festivals, hang out with family and eat delicious sweets.
