“I am deeply saddened to learn of the devastating earthquake that struck Tibet and surrounding areas this morning,” the Dalai Lama said, according to a statement posted on the official website of the Central Tibetan Administration. “The earthquake has resulted in tragic loss of lives, injuries to many and widespread damage to homes and properties,” he said in a condolence message. “I pray for those who lost their lives and wish for the speedy recovery of those who were injured,” he said. The Dalai Lama has been living in exile in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh for several decades.
126 people died in earthquake in Tibet

The earthquake struck Dingri County, located in Shigaze, Tibet Autonomous Region, at 9:05 a.m., although the US Geological Service put its magnitude at 7.1.
