Dark patterns: The Ministry of Consumer Affairs has called a meeting with all the stakeholders on the dark pattern of e-commerce, aviation and cab aggregators. In this meeting, the government will instruct companies to maintain transparency with customers. Giving more details on this news, Aseem Manchanda of CNBC-Awaaz said that the government has become strict on the dark pattern of digital commerce companies. Amazon, Flipkart and Meesho officials will be involved in the meeting convened by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs on this issue today. It will also include officials of makemiTrip, Paytm, Ola, Uber. In the meeting, the government will instruct to maintain transparency with customers.
This meeting will be held under the chairmanship of the Union Consumer Affairs Minister. Many food, pharmacy, travel, cosmetics, retail, textiles, major e-commerce companies of the electronics fields will participate in this meeting. Also, many listed companies will also be involved.
The government issued a guideline on the dark pattern last year. Recently, the government has also issued a notice to Uber on this issue. Cab aggregator companies are demanding an advance tip.
What is a dart pattern?
The dart pattern involves adding anything to customers’ shopping baskets. In this, customers are told that the deal is for just a few hours. This causes the fear of missing the opportunity in the customers and makes purchases without thinking. Apart from this, adding travel insurance with flight tickets and offering to customers is also included in the dart pattern. In simple words, dark pattern is a kind of user interface that is designed in such a way that the company can benefit.
