DA revision occurs twice a year
The DA provided to central employees and pensioners is extended twice a year. There are different revisions for the period of January-June and July-December. For example, in March 2025, the government increased the DA 2% for the January-June period, leading to 53% to 55%. It is now the turn of July-December 2025 periods that can contain 3% hike.
How will salary and pension be affected?
The DA is always fixed on the basis of basic salary, so its effect is different for all. Suppose a pensioner gets a basic pension of Rs 9,000. At present, they get Rs 4,950 according to 55% DA, ie the total pension becomes Rs 13,950. But if the DA is 58%, they will get Rs 5,220 and the pension will be Rs 14,220. That is, there will be a benefit of Rs 270.
The minimum salary of an employee is Rs 18,000. He gets Rs 9,900 at the current 55% DA and the total salary is Rs 27,900. But on 58% DA it will increase to Rs 10,440 and the total salary will be Rs 28,440. That is, there will be a direct benefit of Rs 540 every month.
How is DA decided?
A formula of DA calculation is fixed, which is based on CPI-IW (Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers). Keeping this figure in mind, dearness allowance is fixed.
When will the announcement be made?
Although the government has not made any official announcement yet, but after seeing the trend of previous years, there is news of DA hike after Navratri and before Diwali. This time too, employees and pensioners are expected to get a 3% DA hike gift before the festival. That is, if this announcement was made, then the pockets of central employees and pensioners this Diwali will be a bit more and the fun of the festival is also doubled.
