Voting for the presidential elections in the European country Croatia was completed on Sunday. There were a total of 8 candidates in the presidential race. No candidate has received the required 50% votes for majority. Current President Zoran Milanovic has received the highest number of votes, 49%.
After Zoran, HDZ party candidate Dragan Primorac came second with 19% of the vote. Now the second round of voting for the post of President will take place between the two leaders on January 2. This was also estimated in the survey conducted before the elections. Apart from these two, 6 more candidates were also in the fray, out of which 3 were women.
According to Reuters, a recent survey has shown that the current President Zoran Milanovich is the first choice of the people. Zoran Milanovich has the support of the opposition Socialist Democrats Party. He won the presidential election in 2020 also with the support of the same party. Milanovic has also been the Prime Minister of Croatia.
In a pre-election survey, Milanovic was chosen as their first choice by 37.2% and Primorac by 20.4%.

President Milanovich had sharply criticized the European Union and NATO for providing aid to Ukraine during his tenure as president. His dispute with Croatia’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on this issue also escalated considerably.
In Croatia, the President cannot veto laws, but his opinion matters a lot in foreign policy, defense and security matters.
