Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna starrer film Chhaava is scheduled to release on February 14. The trailer of the film was released recently. There has been controversy regarding Vicky Kaushal’s dance moves in this trailer. Now this controversy is deepening. In this controversy, Maharana Pratap’s descendant and former Rajya Sabha MP Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati said on Friday that the film Chhaava should be shown to historians before its release to confirm the historical facts. The film is based on Maratha warrior-king Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The comments of the former MP, a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, came amid protests from some sections who objected to a dance sequence in the film. It stars actors Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, playing the roles of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and Maharani Yesubai respectively.

Controversy broke out regarding this dance move

The trailer of the film, released earlier this week, features a sequence in which Vicky and Rashmika Mandanna are seen dancing with ‘Lezim’, a traditional musical instrument associated with the cultural heritage of Maharashtra. Regarding this, Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati said that ‘It is commendable that the film throws light on the life and heroic reign of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Director Laxman Utekar and his team showed me the trailer of the film. I told him that I would like to see the entire film before release. I also offered to connect them. Sambhajiraje Chhatrapati said, ‘Historians will be asked to remove inaccuracies to ensure that this important story is presented authentically to audiences around the world.’ However, the filmmakers have not yet interacted with historians. While it is an important part of our cultural heritage, it is necessary to discuss whether taking such cinematic liberties is in line with the dignity and historical portrayal of Sambhaji Maharaj. Historians and experts should discuss the appropriateness of this portrayal.

people protested

Earlier, some Maratha organizations had protested at the historic Lal Mahal in Pune. One of the protesters said, ‘We object to the dance sequence in which Sambhaji Maharaj and Queen Yesubai are shown dancing after the coronation. Filmmakers should show the film to historians and release it only after getting their green signal.
