Kochi: Uma Thomas, Congress MLA from Thrikkakara in Kerala, was seriously injured after falling from the gallery of the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium on Sunday evening. He suffered head and spinal cord injuries and is being treated. In a bleeding condition, the MLA was admitted to a private hospital near the stadium by volunteers and others.

Hospital issued medical bulletin
According to the medical bulletin issued by the hospital, he has suffered injuries to his head and spinal cord, along with fractures in his ribs and internal bleeding in his lungs. Hospital officials said that the MLA’s condition is still critical and he has been kept on ‘ventilator support’. Sources said that his head hit the ground after falling from a height of about 15 feet from the ‘VIP gallery’ of the stadium.
Many leaders reached the hospital
Sources said Uma Thomas had reached the stadium to participate in a dance program which was to be inaugurated by Cultural Affairs Minister Saji Cherian. Industries Minister P Rajeev, who reached the hospital, said that an expert team from the health department will soon provide treatment along with the doctors of the hospital. Health Minister Veena George said that an expert medical team from the health department will assess the health condition of Uma Thomas. Opposition leader V D Satheesan also reached the hospital and said his priority was to ensure immediate proper medical care for the injured MLA. (with language inputs)
