Pandit Prabhakar Karekar dies
Famous Indian classical singer Pandit Prabhakar Karekar died in Mumbai. Prabhakar Karekar breathed his last at the age of 80 after a brief illness. According to Goa -born Prabhakar Karekar’s family, he breathed his last at his residence in Shivaji Park area on Wednesday night. His body will be kept in his house in Dadar today for his last visit.
Karekar was famous for singing like Vakratund Mahakaya “
Karekar was known for singing like “Bolwa Vitthal Pahawa Vitthal” and “Vakratund Mahakaya”. Honored as an excellent singer and teacher, Karekar performed as a category artist on All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan. He received training from veterans like Pandit Suresh Haldankar, Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki and Pandit CR Vyas.
Goa Chief Minister paid tribute
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has paid tribute to Pandit Prabhakar Karekar. He has shared a post from the X account (formerly Twitter). In his post, CM Sawant wrote- “It was sad to know about the demise of Hindustani classical and semi-classical singer Pandit Prabhakar Karekar. Born in Antruz Mahal Goa, Hindustani learned classical music under the patronage of Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki. Demonstrated. He contributed greatly to the conservation and expansion of classical music in Goa. “
