China has announced to intensify the construction of moral dams in Pakistan, which is an important hydropower and water security project. China has taken this step amid growing tension over the Indus Water Treaty between India and Pakistan.
According to the report of South China Morning Post, the work of filling concrete in the dam has started. China has described it as a national project for Pakistan.
The dam is being produced by China’s government company China Energy Engineering Corporation. This company started work in 2019.
This news came before Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar’s visit to Beijing, where he will meet China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
The world’s fifth highest dam will be
Mohammed Dam is being built on the Swat River in Mohammand district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. It is a multi-purpose concrete-friendly rockfill dam, which is being made for flood control, irrigation, drinking water and power generation.
This dam 700 feet high will be the fifth highest dam in the world. This dam will produce 800 MW hydropower (hydropower) and will supply 300 million gallons of water every day to Peshawar.
In addition, it will irrigate thousands of acres of agricultural land and will protect the low -lying areas from seasonal floods.
Dam work can be complete by 2027
According to a report by Pakistani newspaper Dawn, the work of the dam can be completed by 2027. Currently, work is also going on on the digging of power and irrigation tunnel in the dam, construction of spillway and upstream Cofterdam.
According to the report, the work of dam construction is leading beyond its scheduled time.
In addition, China is also helping in the construction of Dimeor-Language Dam to increase Pakistan’s water storage capacity. This dam is being built in Chillas on the Indus River near Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
