Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau may resign from his post this week. Canadian newspaper Globe and Mail has given this report quoting three people. Trudeau has been under pressure from his Liberal Party MPs to step down for several months.

According to the report of The Globe and Mail, the National Caucus meeting of the Liberal Party is going to be held on Wednesday, Trudeau will submit his resignation as the leader of the Liberal Party before this meeting. It is believed that Trudeau may face a rebellion in the National Caucus meeting. In such a situation, Trudeau feels that he should announce his resignation before the caucus meeting.

Last month, Canada’s Deputy PM and Finance Minister Chrystia had resigned from the post. After this, the pressure on Trudeau to resign increased further. Cristia said that Trudeau had asked him to leave the post of Finance Minister and take charge of another ministry.

More than 20 MPs from Trudeau’s party have publicly demanded his resignation. Apart from this, many people have told him in personal meetings that Trudeau has no other option but to resign.

Chrystia has long been considered Trudeau's most influential and loyal minister.

Trudeau does not have majority

Currently, the Liberal Party has 153 MPs in the House of Commons, the Parliament of Canada. There are 338 seats in the Canadian House of Commons. The majority figure in this is 170. Last year, the New Democratic Party (NDP), an ally of the Trudeau government, had withdrawn its support. The NDP is the party of pro-Khalistani Canadian Sikh MP Jagmeet Singh.

Due to the break of the alliance, the Trudeau government was reduced to minority. However, in the majority test held on October 1, Trudeau’s Liberal Party got the support of another party. Because of this, Trudeau passed the floor test.

Trudeau was running the government with the support of Canadian Sikh MP Jagmeet Singh's party, but last year Jagmeet Singh withdrew support from him.

Elections are to be held in Canada next year

Elections for the post of Prime Minister are to be held in Canada in 2025. These elections will be conducted before October. Current Prime Minister Trudeau said he plans to lead the Liberal Party to contest the next election. However, many party leaders are not liking Trudeau as a prime ministerial candidate.

Trudeau is claiming the post of Prime Minister for the fourth time. In the last 100 years, no Prime Minister has won elections four times in a row in Canada. Trudeau’s Liberal Party does not have a majority in Parliament on its own.

Trudeau was elected Prime Minister for the first time in 2015. He had succeeded in establishing his identity as a liberal leader. However, for some time now, Trudeau has been facing political challenges due to the rise of fundamentalist forces in Canada, the increasing number of immigrants and the situation created after Covid-19.
