CAIT has advised to celebrate Diwali on October 20 in 2025, so that this festival is celebrated at the appropriate time across the country as per the scriptures and astrological calculations. According to Ujjain’s Astrologer Acharya Durgesh Tare, Pradosh Vyapini Tithi of Amavasya is on 20th October this year, which is considered the most auspicious for celebrating Diwali.
National General Secretary of Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) and Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal said that Diwali is an important festival of India not only from religious but also from business point of view. On this day, the new accounting year begins and all the businessmen worship Goddess Lakshmi-Ganesh and pray for prosperity. Therefore it is important to determine the correct date. He told that the effect of Amavasya on October 21 will last only for a few moments, hence it is not right to celebrate Diwali on the same day.
Acharya Tare also said that the Amavasya which prevails in both Pradosh and midnight periods is the main Amavasya. This year this date comes into full effect on the night of 20th October, hence CAT has advised businessmen across the country to celebrate Diwali on 20th October only. He has also fixed the dates of other festival events like Dhanteras, Narak Chaturdashi, Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj.
This decision will benefit not only the religious followers but also the business community as business increases with the beginning of the new accounting year on Diwali. Traders celebrate this festival with great enthusiasm and pray to Goddess Lakshmi-Ganesh and pray for a good financial year.
Thus, as per CAT’s advice, Diwali in 2025 will be celebrated on October 20, thereby creating a harmony between market, business and family and celebrating the festival with its traditional and spiritual spirit.
