This day matters not only for the stock market, but for every Indian. But one question definitely comes to the mind of every investor – will the stock market climb or fall on the budget day? Today we will try to find the answer to this question through some old figures!

The budget day is very special for the stock market. On this day, the government makes such a big announcement, which impact the country’s economy as well as the stock market directly. Looking at the statistics of India Vix Index, which indicates the stock market fluctuations, the market usually increases before the budget and then it decreases rapidly after the budget. But the real question is that after all the impact on the move of the stock market, let’s take a look at it.

If we look at the move of the stock market during the last 10 years of budget, then some interesting patterns emerge. In the last 10 years, the budget has been presented 14 times, including both interim and full. Out of this, Sensex and Nifty have closed down on the budget of 8 times.

At the same time, they have seen a boom on only 6 occasions. Even more interesting is that since the last 3 times, the Nifty has closed down with a decline on the day of the budget. In such a situation, this time on the day of 1 February budget, everyone’s eyes are going to be on the market.

If we talk about statistics, the budget was presented 2 times due to the Lok Sabha elections last year. The first interim budget on 1 February 2024, the day the Nifty closed down 0.13 per cent. For the second time, the full budget was presented on 23 July 2024 and the Nifty closed down 0.12 per cent on that day. Earlier, the Nifty was 0.26 percent below the budget day of 2023.

However, during the budget of 2021 and 2022, the stock market saw a boom. In the year 2022, the Nifty closed up 1.37 percent on the budget day. At the same time, in 2021, there was a strong rise of 4.74 percent on the budget day. This is the fastest faster in the budget day in the last 10 years. At the same time, in the year 2020, the Nifty fell by about 2.5 percent on the budget day and the biggest decline is the day of the budget in the last 10 years.

In 2019, Union Minister Piyush Goyal presented the budget on 1 February. The Nifty was up 0.58 percent that day. The Lok Sabha election was that year, due to which the final budget was presented by Nirmala Sitharaman on 5 July by Nirmala Sitharaman. The Nifty fell 1.14 percent that day.

In the year 2018, the Nifty was closed with a slight decline of 0.10 per cent on the day of the union budget. In 2017, the budget Nifty had a great rise of 1.81 percent. But before this, the Nifty was in the red mark in the 2016 budget.
