MPs from 10 countries including India participated in the 11th BRICS parliamentary platform held on 4-5 June in Brasilia. India was led by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, with a high -level parliamentary delegation.
The conference was attended by MPs from India, Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, Egypt and Indonesia.
After several intensive discussions and deliberations during the conference, there was a widespread consensus on major topics like Artificial Intelligence, Global Trade and Economy, Inter-Religious Cooperation, Global Peace and Security.
At the conference, all the countries strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in India and agreed to the ‘Zero tolerance’ policy against terrorism. India, taking a strong stand against terrorism, insisted on preventing financial assistance of terrorist organizations, sharing intelligence information.
The next 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum will be held in India, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has been appointed as its chairman. India will now play an active role in strengthening cooperation between the BRICS parliament and advancing the shared approach to deal with global challenges.
