So far 49 people have died in the floods in the eastern Cape province of South Africa. Officials said on Wednesday that the death toll may increase further as many people are still missing and the search is on.
The disaster started on Tuesday morning when a strong storm brought heavy rains in the area, strong winds and snowfall in some areas. Eastern Cape province, which is one of the poorest areas of the country, has been the most affected by this disaster.
The premiere of Eastern Cape, Oscar Mabuyane said, “As we are talking, and the bodies are getting. It is one of the most horrific natural disasters in our province. I didn’t see anything like this before.”
