At least 45 to 50 prisoners have escaped from Malir Jail in Karachi, Pakistan. According to the jail administration, precautionary prisoners were taken out of the barracks after the earthquake in Karachi on Monday.

According to Geo News, during this time, more than 100 prisoners escaped from the main gate.

About 50 of these prisoners have been apprehended again. Many are still absconding. Home Minister of Sindh province Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar confirmed this in the early hours of Tuesday.

Earlier, in many media reports, the prisoners were said to run away by breaking the walls. The administration has made it clear that no wall has been broken, all the prisoners escaped from the main gate amidst the stampede.

Prisoners pushed after earthquake

Home Minister Lanzar said that 700 to 1000 prisoners were brought out of the barracks after the earthquake. In this chaos, about 100 prisoners started pushing towards the main gate and escaped.

So far, 46 absconding prisoners have been caught again, while many are still absconding. According to the jail administration, the search operation is still going on. In this campaign, Special Security Unit (SSU), Rapid Response Force (RRF), Rangers and Frontier Core (FC) teams are working together.

Soon after the incident, the prison control Rangers and FC took over. IG Jail, DIG Jail and Jail Minister reached the spot and reviewed the situation.

One prisoner killed in accident, 4 security personnel injured

The death of a prisoner in the incident is reported. At the same time, 4 security personnel have been injured. The Home Minister admitted that administrative negligence could also be the cause of this incident.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has been given complete information. He instructed the Home Minister to go to jail and monitor the situation.

Taking cognizance of the incident, Sindh Governor Kamran Tesori also asked the Home Minister and IG Sindh Police to arrest all the prisoners soon.

Home Minister Lanjar said that every absconding prisoner’s identity and records are available. Raids continue in their homes and surrounding areas.

The jail minister said that disciplinary action will be taken against careless officers. In terms of security, check posts and monitoring are being tightened.

Last year, 19 prisoners escaped from POK jail

In July last year, 19 prisoners escaped from Pakistan -occupied Kashmir (POK) Rawalkot jail. 6 of them were sentenced to death. The incident is from Rawalkot Jail in Poonch, which is about 110 km from Muzaffarabad. Sunday afternoon around 2:30 pm
