How many MPs did which party had?
The election for the posts of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor in Chandigarh was scheduled on January 30 today. According to PTI, the number of BJP members in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation had increased to 16. The number of Congress councilors in the municipal corporation was 6 and the number of Aam Aadmi Party councilors was 13. Apart from this, Chandigarh MP Manish Tiwari also had the right to vote as ex -officio member of the Municipal Corporation. AAP and Congress contested the mayor under the alliance.
What were AAP-Congress difficulties?
In fact, AAP and Congress had many contenders for Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Since, the voting was to be done through the secret ballot, if the 3 councilors had crossed voting, then BJP’s vote 19 and Congress-AAP would have remained 17 votes. The AAP-Congress game could have deteriorated even if the vote was involved by marking the ballot paper instead of cross voting. In such a situation, not only the mayor, but the difficulties of alliance in the remaining 2 posts could also increase. Now according to the information, due to cross voting, Harpreet Kaur Babla of BJP has been elected Mayor. Let us tell you that Harpreet is a councilor of ward number 10 of Chandigarh.
