New Delhi: A big news of this time has come out regarding self-proclaimed Baba Asaram. Asaram has got interim bail till 31 March. SC grants interim bail to self-styled godman Asaram on medical grounds in the 2013 rape case.

What is the whole matter?

The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Asaram with conditions for heart treatment. Let us tell you that Asaram is serving a sentence of remaining in jail till his last breath in the case of sexual misconduct with a student of his own Gurukul. He has been granted interim bail only on medical grounds.

Asaram has been admitted from Jodhpur Central Jail to the Health Care Center in Bhagat Ki Kothi, where he is undergoing treatment. Asaram’s lawyer told that he is a heart patient and has suffered a heart attack. The Supreme Court has also ordered the deployment of policemen at the time of bail granted on medical grounds.

The Supreme Court has directed that after being released on interim bail, Asaram will not try to tamper with the evidence and will not meet his followers.

Asaram has demanded suspension of sentence

Earlier, Asaram had sought suspension of the life imprisonment given to him by the trial court in the 2013 rape case and had filed a petition for this.

Was sentenced to life imprisonment in January 2023

In January 2023, the sessions court had convicted Asaram in the 2013 rape case. The case was filed by a woman living in his ashram near Gandhinagar. The High Court had said that her arguments regarding possible delay in disposal of her appeal, her age and medical condition were not relevant to grant relief. The court also considered earlier cases involving the alleged murder of two boys at the Sabarmati Ashram and attacks on witnesses and relatives of the victims.

Asaram’s petition said he was the victim of a conspiracy and the rape allegations were false. It said the trial court erred in accepting the victim’s explanation for the delay of 12 years in filing the complaint.
