If you pay electricity, gas or water bill from Google, then this news is important for you. Now additional charge will have to be paid for recharge of all these on Google. Google Pay has now started charging facility fees on utility bill payments. Earlier there was no charge on small transactions, but now paying from 0.5% to 1% will have to be paid and GST on payment by debit and credit cards. However, if you pay directly from the bank account through UPI, there will be no additional fee.
This charge will be applicable to electricity, water and gas bill payment. A year ago, Google Pay charged a fee of Rs 3 on mobile recharge and now this rule has also come into force on bill payment.
PhonePe and Paytm also charge
PhonePe and Paytm are already taking processing fees on bill payment, mobile recharge and other services. Now Google Pay has adopted the same model. However, there will be no charge for directing the bank directly from UPI. A customer had to pay a facility fee of about Rs 15 for paying electricity bill through credit card from Google Pay, including GST. This charge was also called a processing fee for debit and credit card payment.
UPI will not charge charge
Google Pay has a large share in UPI transactions which is around 37%. The first place in UPI payment is PhonePe, while Google is at number two. By January, Google Pay had processed UPI transaction worth Rs 8.26 lakh crore. Earlier, Google used to bear the processing expenses itself, but now this expense is being taken from users. On Google Pay’s website, it has been told that payment will be charged for paying the card, while there will be no charge for payment directly from the bank account from UPI.
