New methods are being used every day to target themselves by committing fraud. PIB’s Fact Check team has identified a fake scheme where an attempt is made to mislead users regarding e-PAN card download through fake emails.
PIB’s fact check team has issued a warning about this fake scheme on social media platform X. It says, ‘Have you received such an email asking you to download e-PAN card? The Fact Check team says that this is a fake email and never respond to calls, texts, emails or links that request sensitive or financial information.
What is PAN 2.0?
Income Tax Department is preparing to launch PAN 2.0, the modern version of PAN card. The updated card includes an improved QR code system and enhanced security measures to prevent fraudulent activities.

Keep in mind that the Income Tax Department never asks for personal information through email. The department does not ask for PIN numbers, passwords and other confidential information related to credit card, bank or other financial accounts by sending emails.
Where to complain?
Report suspicious email or website to webmanager@incometax.gov.in and incident@cert-in.org. But it should be done. This should mention the website URL or the entire email. For greater scrutiny, provide the Internet header of the email, which contains information about the sender. Delete suspicious messages after complaining.
