If you If you live in Delhi-NCR and often go to Delhi by their car, then this news is for you. Delhi Traffic Police has issued a new decree for the drivers. Under this, if you are caught driving more than three times juice (driving carelessly or in an unprotected manner) or driving drunk, your license will be canceled. This step of Delhi Traffic Police is to prevent increasing number of deadly accidents on the roads of the capital and strictly on “habitual violations”.

Road accident increased rapidly

According to the data of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the road accident has increased from 1.38 lakh to more than 1.68 lakhs in the last three years. In view of this, the traffic police has written a letter to the Transport Department requesting to take action, including the cancellation of the license of the drivers who habitually violated the traffic rules. Let us know that in 2021 in Delhi, 1,206 people died in 1,206 accidents. In 2024, by 15 December, this number reached 1,431 people in 1,398 accidents. This means that in 2021, three people died on an average in vehicle accidents per day and in 2024 the number increased to four per day.

Amendment in motor vehicle act

The Motor Vehicles Act implemented in 1988 was amended in 2019, which has increased from about Rs 100 to Rs 500-20,000 for most of the offenses. Recently, a letter written by the Delhi Traffic Police to the Delhi Transport Department recommends the cancellation of driving license of those who violated three or more times of Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and/or 185. These currents are related to dangerous driving – including other crimes such as crossing the red light, overtaking and using the phone while driving – besides driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
