BCCI Review Meeting: Indian batsmen proved to be a huge flop in the Test series against Australia. For this reason the Indian team had to lose the series 1-3. Senior batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were also not able to perform as per their name in the series. Both of them did not score runs even in the home Test series against New Zealand. Now after losing the Test series to Australia, Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar and Coach Gautam Gambhir will hold a meeting with BCCI officials, in which the future of Rohit-Virat will be discussed in depth.
There is every possibility of Rohit-Virat playing in Champions Trophy
PTI has learned that future plans will be discussed in the BCCI meeting. In this, the main discussion will be on starting the transition period before or after the Champions Trophy. However, there is every possibility that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will get another chance to prove themselves in the ODI Champions Trophy. This is a format in which both have always performed well. They can also take into account the fact that both Kohli and Rohit have played only three ODI matches in 2024 after the World Cup played in India in 2023. Both of them played these three matches against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
Kohli has scored more than 13000 runs in ODI cricket
But overall, Virat Kohli has been a superstar player in ODI cricket and with a good performance in the Champions Trophy, both these players can return to a good mental state. As far as Test cricket is concerned, the situation is completely different. India has to play its next Test series against England and before that the poor performance of Kohli and Rohit will be reviewed. Kohli is the second highest run-scorer Indian player in ODI cricket and has scored a total of 13906 runs so far.
In the Test series against Australia, Virat Kohli had scored a century in the first match, but after that his bat became quiet. He scored only 190 runs at an average of 23.75. On the other hand, Rohit, who did not play in the first and fifth Tests, scored 31 runs in five innings at an average of 6.2. Similarly, it is possible that the performance of the coaching staff led by Gautam Gambhir may also be reviewed. He can be asked about his planning in this period of change.
