Asma al-Assad, wife of former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, is suffering from a serious illness. According to The Telegraph, Asma has blood cancer i.e. leukemia. Doctors have said his chances of survival are only 50%.
British-born Asma Al-Assad was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019. After treatment, he declared himself cancer free. At present, he is being treated by keeping him in isolation. Asma married Asad in December 2000. Asma and Asad have three children, named Hafiz, Jean and Kareem.
Asma was born in London in 1975 to Syrian parents. He holds dual citizenship of Britain and Syria.
Asma holds a degree in Computer Science and French Literature from King’s College, London.
Russia imposes tough sanctions on Bashar al-Assad The situation worsened after the civil war and rebellion that started in Syria in 2011. America removes bounty on Syrian rebel JulaniThe US has withdrawn the $10 million (Rs 85 crore) bounty offered on Abu Mohammed al-Julani, the leader of the Syrian rebel group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
US officials took this decision after meeting with HTS leaders in Syria. US Assistant Secretary of State Barbara Leaf said that this decision has been taken after ousting President Bashar al-Assad from power.
After the fall of the Assad government, an American team had reached Syria. It was led by Barbara Leaf. US officials also met with HTS Chief Abu Julani on the morning of December 21. Barbara Leaf said that the talks with HTS leaders were very good and successful.
America had declared HTS a ‘terrorist’ organization in 2018. A year before this, a reward was placed on Abu Julani. According to reports, America is also considering removing the HTS group from the list of terrorist organization.
