Former US President Barack Obama gave a speech at an event in the city of Hartford in the US state of Connecticut last week. Obama in his speech expressed concern over the current political situation of America and appealed to the youth to save the country.
Obama criticized the Trump government and said that those who are running the US government today are weakening the basic principles of democracy. He said that in democracy it is necessary that wrong things should be opposed from both outside the government and inside. But now this is not happening.
Obama compared America to countries like Hungary, where elections are held, but there is no really the voice of the people and the leaders are arbitrary. He warned that America is also moving on a similar path where the real spirit of law and democracy is weakening.
Obama warned that the situation in America also seems to be moving in that direction. Obama gave the example of the 2020 presidential election, in which Biden won, but the lost Donald Trump made false allegations of fraud.
Obama gave the example of Putin and KGB Obama said in the interview that people in power often take advantage of the environment where people do not know what the truth is. There is a saying of Russian President Putin and his KGB (Steering Agency), which was also adopted by Trump’s advisor Steve Bannon in the US.
This saying means that if you want people’s mind get entangled, then they do not need to explain the truth. In that environment, fill so much lies and nonsense that people feel, now it is proud to believe something.
‘When people give up on the truth, only then dictatorship flourishes’
Obama further said- it does not matter whether a leader is lying again and again, or a President is claiming that he has not lost the election, but won, and there was a disturbance in the election. But when the same leader wins the election, that disturbance suddenly disappears.
Who believes on the lie, it does not matter so much, the real problem is when people give up all these defeat, “Now there is nothing difference.” When people give up on the truth, then the dictatorship flourishes.
Obama further said that this is happening today in a major political party in America (Republican Party). Many leaders know that the things that are happening are not true, but still they play as if everything is fine and true. This is a very dangerous situation.
Obama appealed people to stand in favor of law
Obama said that the democratic rules and regulations in the US Constitution may be incomplete in the beginning, but they were strengthened over time. This gives the citizens basic rights, such as no one can be taken from the road and taken to any other country without a legal process. It was not a political view, but a common American value.
Obama said that today there is a need that not only the common people, but the officers present in the government, whether they are from any party, stand in favor of the law and say, “No, this is wrong. The law says this and we should follow it.” He warned that if there are no such people in the government machinery, then the direction of democracy may deteriorate.
“Democracy does not run on its own. People need it. Judge, officers of the Department of Justice, inside the government who take the oath to protect the constitution seriously,” said Obama. If this does not happen, the country can gradually move towards a dictatorial system.
At the end of the program, when he was asked what message he wanted to give to the youth, Obama said that he is still optimistic. He told the youth that anger against wrong things is necessary, but to bring change, the thinking connecting is necessary. He said that you will also have to talk to those who do not agree with you, but some things can happen.
