Very few people would know that in our country there used to be a bank in the name of Lord Shri Ram. Pictures of Lord Ram, Lakshman and Sita were also found in bank cheques. The princely state Shriramchandra Laxman Bank of Dungarpur is telling the same story. This bank existed during the era of kings and emperors. This bank continued to function for a long time. Then after independence it was merged with other banks.
During the times of kings and emperors, there used to be Shri Ramchandra Laxman Bank. It was established in Dungarpur during the princely state, during the reign of Maharawal Laxman Singh. This bank remained in existence for many decades. It was established on the verbal orders of the Dungarpur ruler. Both banks and checks operated in the name of Lord Shri Ram. There was a picture of Sita Ram among the attractive designs on it. The checks of this bank of Dungarpur State were printed at NK Press of Lucknow.
Many kings had bank accounts opened
Shri Ramchandra Laxman Bank was in Dungarpur, Rajasthan. In the 19th century when kings ruled. Then the bank was started. The Bank had no written constitution. During its time, this bank had opened bank accounts of many kings. Besides, public money was also safely deposited in the bank. The interesting thing is that even at that time this bank had given its check book. Its design was quite different and attractive from today’s checks. This check was deposited by Kota’s currency expert Shailesh Jain. People are widely sharing this check present in his collection. This check is of Shriramchandra Laxman Bank. Lord Ram was also present in the name and logo of the bank. Lord Ram has been worshiped by everyone.
Coins of Lord Ram during Akbar’s era
It is being said that gold and silver coins were issued in the year 1604 during the time of Emperor Akbar. On one side, Lord Ram is holding a bow in his hand and Mother Sita is holding flowers in her hand. Mohammad Gauri had got Goddess Lakshmi depicted in the coin.
