Why will the banks be closed on Friday 9 May?
Banks are scheduled to be closed in West Bengal on Friday 9 May. Banks are closed in many parts of West Bengal including Kolkata on the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary. The birth anniversary of the great poet, writer and thinker Tagore, who is awarded the Nobel Prize, is celebrated as a cultural pride and tradition in the state. On this occasion, due to the declaration of the state government’s holiday, all government and many private banking institutions are closed.

9 May (Friday): Rabindranath Tagore Jayanti – Bank closed in Kolkata.
May 12 (Monday): Buddha Purnima – Banks closed in Agartala, Aizawl, Belapur, Bhopal, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla and Srinagar.
16 May (Friday): State Day – Bank closed in Gangtok.
26 May (Monday): Kazi Nazrul Islam’s birth anniversary – Bank closed in Agartala.
2May 9 (Thursday): Maharana Pratap Jayanti – Bank closed in Shimla.
Apart from this, banks will remain closed due to regular weekly holidays in May. These holidays will remain closed on all Sundays i.e. 4, 11, 18 and 25 May. Apart from this, banks are scheduled to be closed on 10 and 24 May on the second and fourth Saturdays.
Will you get online banking service?
Yes, during these holidays, customers can use money transaction bill payment and other digital service through UPI, IMPS, Net Banking and Mobile Banking Apps. However, the bank branch will not work, so customers are advised to tackle the necessary work in advance so that there is no problem.
