Starlink, a company that provides Ilon Musk’s satellite internet service in Bangladesh, has started its services from Tuesday. Mohammad Yunus, the head of the interim government in Bangladesh, congratulated the people of the country for this.

He wrote in a Facebook post-Starlink’s high-speed, low-altency internet has become available in the country with two packages. In one plan, people will have to spend 6000 taka (4,203 Indian rupees) and 4200 taka (2,942 Indian rupees) in the second plan.

However, they will have to spend 47000 taka (32,930 Indian rupees) separately to take Starlink setup. In this, they will get an antenna and modem. Users will get speed of up to 300 Mbps with unlimited data in these plans.

High speed internet in far-flung areas also

Yunus has said about Starlinks that it has been kept separate from politics. In March, he had said that if there is any political crisis in the country in future, then it will not affect the Starlink service. During the student agitation in July last year, the Internet was banned across the country. Yunus was referring to this.

Starlink is an internet service service through a satellite. This means that it does not depend on the ground wires and towers, but gives the internet from the satellites revolving in the sky.

Because of this, it can deliver internet across Bangladesh, even in villages and remote areas (such as Sundarbans). Although in the beginning, in which areas this service will be available, it is not clear yet, it is expected that it will work all over the country.

Users’ expenditure will increase by 5 times more

Starlink service is not cheap. In Bangladesh, a user usually uses a plan of Rs 600-650 to use free internet for a month. He will have to spend 5 times more for Starlink. In such a situation, it is expensive for the common people, but it is very useful in places where the Internet does not reach. Apart from this, it can continue to work in a situation like flood, storm or internet block.

The company faced a lot of problems to bring Starlink to Bangladesh. Initially Hasina government and BTRC (Telecom Department) were not interested in it. Along with this, local internet companies also raised questions that when they are, why is there a need for starlink?

Yunus gave 90 days’ time, starts in 56 days

However, in February 2025 this year, there was a phone conversation between Ilon Musk and Mohammad Yunus. During this, there was talk to bring Starlink in Bangladesh.

After this, on 25 March, Younus ordered that Starlink service should start within 90 days. However, it started in the country in just 56 days, according to the starlink, its service is available in 130 countries worldwide. Negotiations are going on to bring it in India too. According to many reports, it can be launched in India in the year 2025 as well.
