Big news has come out about Bangladesh cricket. Bangladesh Cricket Board i.e. BCB announced that Bangladesh cricket team coach Phil Simmons has decided to maintain till the ODI Cup to be held in 2027. This means that Simmons will remain the head coach of Bangladesh for the next two years.
Phil Simmons was appointed as the coach of Bangladesh’s Mains team on 15 October 2024. Simmons replaced Chandika Hathurusingha, which was suspended. The 61 -year -old Phil Simmons had a contract with BCB until the end of the ICC Champions Trophy. His first term was from October 2024 to February 2025. During this time he served as head coaches in the series against South Africa, Afghanistan and West Indies with the Bangladesh team but did not get much success. During that time Bangladesh won a Test and a T20 series in the West Indies, but lost to India and New Zealand in the group stage of the Champions Trophy.
Now the coaches of Karachi Kings will not remain
After this major announcement by the Bangladesh Cricket Board, there has been speculation about the future of Simmons with Bangladesh and it will no longer be the coach of Karachi Kings in Pakistan Super League i.e. PSL. He was the head coach of Karachi since December 2023. Simmons, who played for the West Indies in the 90s, had previously been the head coach of Zimbabwe, Ireland and Afghanistan. He also gave coaching to the West Indies twice, including the team winning the T20 World Cup in 2016.
Phil is very excited about the journey ahead
After extending the contract, Phil Simmons said that it is very happy to get a chance to work with Bangladesh cricket for a long time. There is no shortage of talent in this team and they believe that they can achieve big achievements together. He said that he is very keen to travel ahead. Already after working with some best players, he is looking at immense possibilities in this team. His passion for the game inspires him daily.
