A day before the Rath Yatra in Bangladesh, the case of running a bulldozer at the Durga temple in Khilkhet in Dhaka on Thursday has caught fire. The Bangladesh Sanatani Group, the Sanatani movement and the Bangladesh National Hindu Federation have called for protests and human chains against the government’s inaction since Friday morning.

Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Ekta Parishad General Secretary Manindra Kumar Nath said that we have called for a bandh across the country on Saturday. Bangladesh Hindu Federation General Secretary Palash Kanti Dey said, “Our organization will oppose the Hindu community all over the country on Saturday in a protest in Shahabag in Dhaka.”

Earlier on Friday, demonstrations took place in many cities of Bangladesh on the day of Rath Yatra. In many districts and universities of the country, the Hindu community organized a protest and a human chain to protest against the demolition of the temple by government officials.

Bangladesh railway officials on Thursday got a bulldozer at a Durga temple in Khilkhet, Dhaka. Railway officials said that the temple was illegally built on the railway land. Hindu organizations allege that the authorities broke the temple without informing people.

At a protest rally held in Dhaka, former president of Hindu Alliance, Advocate Gobind Chandra Pramanik said, “Where the temple was demolished, mosques and madrasas are there. Many illegal structures are also present there. In such a situation, demolishing the temple and its idols as ‘illegal’ proves that fundamentalists have entered every corner of this government.

Railway minister’s cleanliness- idol immersed with respect Railway Ministry Advisor Muhammad Faujul Kabir Khan clarified on the question of demolition of the temple, claiming that 100 shops, political parties’ offices, a raw market and finally temporary temples were removed.

The idol of the temple was honorablely immersed in the Balu River. However, local eyewitness said that the bulldozers were run directly on the temple and the statue kept in it. There was no immersion of the idol till Thursday night.

India said- disappointed with the attitude of Bangladesh government India has objected to the incident of demolition of a temple of Maa Durga located in Kheelkhet area of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. India’s Foreign Ministry has strictly criticized Bangladesh’s Interim Younus Government, stating that the incident reflects a serious lapse in the safety of religious minorities.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said on Thursday that we have received information that extremist groups were demanding to demolish the Durga temple in Kheelkhet. But instead of protecting the temple, the interim government dropped it as an ‘illegal construction’. This caused damage before removing the idol.

Jaiswal clearly stated that it becomes the responsibility of the Government of Bangladesh to protect Hindus, their religious beliefs, assets and places of worship. India has been talking on this issue for a long time. India is serious about the fact that such incidents are happening frequently in Bangladesh.
