Fundamentalists in Bangladesh have targeted 6 Hindu temples in the last week. Of these, four temples were attacked in Hathazari, Chittagong on January 8. One temple each was looted in Cox’s Bazar on January 9 and Lal Monirhat on January 10. Two Hindus were murdered there.
Gold ornaments and donation box have been looted from Maa Vishveshwari Kali temple in Hathazari area of Chittagong. Robbery was also carried out in Satyanarayan Seva Ashram, Maa Magadheshwari Temple and Jagabandhu Ashram.
Apart from this, thieves broke the CCTV camera of Shrimandir in Cox’s Bazar. Ancient idols and precious worship materials have been looted from the Bhavatarini Kali temple in Lal Monirhat district.
The radicals killed Dilip Kumar Roy (71), a former college teacher, after entering his house. In Jalakhathi district, 26 year old businessman Sudev Haldar was murdered by slitting his throat. No culprit has been arrested in these incidents that took place recently.

Yunus’s government is encouraging fundamentalists
Manindra Kumar Nath, acting general secretary of Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council, said-
Yunus government is giving open protection to radicals. Attacks on minorities are not stopping. There is no democracy left in Bangladesh. We are unsafe.
Bangladesh police said- most of the attacks are political
Bangladesh Police on Saturday released a report of the attacks that took place between August 2024 and January 2025. The police claimed in its report that most of the attacks that took place during this period were not communal but politically motivated.
Let us tell you that in a report released by Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council, it was claimed that in the last 6 months, there have been 1,769 attacks and 2,010 incidents of vandalism against minority communities including Hindus.
These also include attacks on temples and homes and business establishments of other minorities. The council claims that the police did not register hundreds of cases. In its clarification, the police said that out of the incidents mentioned in the council’s report, 1,234 were found to be politically motivated. Only 20 incidents were communal. More than 100 accused have been arrested in 115 cases.
Bangladesh Police say that most of the attacks that took place between August 2024 and January 2025 were politically motivated.
Indian High Commissioner summoned in Bangladesh
On the other hand, Bangladesh Foreign Ministry on Sunday summoned Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Verma on the issue of border tension. Bangladesh has alleged that India is trying to erect fencing at five places along the India-Bangladesh border in violation of the bilateral agreement.
Bangladesh’s government news agency BSS said that the Indian High Commissioner talked about this issue with Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Jashim Uddin.
However, the interim government of Bangladesh has not issued any statement in this matter. The Indian High Commissioner said after the meeting that both the countries have agreed to erect fencing on the issue of security. Security forces (BSF and BGB) of both the countries have also talked on this issue.
Bangladesh had summoned Indian High Commissioner Prannoy Verma due to flooding on the border by India.
