Ayushman Bharat Yojana has so far provided treatment to more than 9.19 crore patients, out of which 52% are getting treatment in private hospitals. Under this government health insurance scheme, every family gets free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh annually, the expenses of which are borne by the government. The largest use is in the treatment of hemodialysis (kidney failure), which accounts for 14% of the scheme. Ayushman Bharat Yojana aims to provide assured and affordable healthcare to the economically weaker section, which includes both government and private hospitals.
Over the years, the number of Ayushman card holders has increased to more than 40.45 crore, which includes 14.69 crore families. The key feature of this scheme is that the beneficiaries can get cashless treatment in any panel hospital, whether in their own state or anywhere else. Through this scheme, poor and vulnerable people are getting the benefit of better quality health care, thereby improving their quality of life.
More than 1,400 procedures are covered under the scheme for treatment of serious diseases such as cancer, heart disease, and organ transplants. Additionally, the cost of care and medicines for up to 15 days after discharge from the hospital is also covered in the plan.
Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is the country’s largest health insurance scheme, which is fully funded by the government and aims to protect poor and underprivileged families from health crises. Till now, crores of poor people have got free treatment under this scheme, due to which a new era in health care has started in India.
