The trend of withdrawing retirement is increasing in the cricket world. This is often seen in Pakistan cricket but now an Australian player has surprised everyone by deciding to withdraw his retirement. This player is Australia’s veteran T20 player Dan Christian, who has come back from retirement. Dan Christian has taken this big step to help BBL team Sydney Thunder which is struggling with injury. Christian will be available for the remaining matches of the tournament.
The 41-year-old all-rounder last played professionally for the Sydney Sixers two years ago and has since been working as an assistant coach at the Sydney Thunder. Christian BBL was last seen playing in the semi-final match played between Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat in the year 2023. He has not played any professional cricket match since this match.
Will be included in the club of greats
Dan Christian is set to join an exclusive club of BBL players at the age of 40, which includes Brad Hodge, Peter Siddle, Fawad Ahmed and the late Shane Warne. Shane Warne was seen playing in the league at the age of 43. Warne holds the record of being the oldest player in BBL.
Christian’s return follows injuries to Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft, who were sidelined after a horrific collision on the field during last week’s win against the Perth Scorchers. Now it will be interesting to see what kind of performance Dan Christian is able to perform when he makes a comeback. If we look at the statistics of Dan Christian, he has scored 5825 runs in 409 T20 matches at a strike rate of 137.73 and an average of 22.66. Apart from this, he has taken 280 wickets in his name. He has spread his magic in leagues around the world. He has also been a part of RCB in IPL.
