The Indian Embassy in Jalalabad was closed by the Government of India in April 2020.
Afghan employees working for the Indian Consulate in Jalalabad, Afghanistan were attacked by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday evening. This attack was carried out on the vehicle carrying employees.
According to media reports, at least 3 employees have died in this. Apart from this, one person has also been injured. It is believed that this is target killing but till now no group has taken responsibility for it.
According to media reports, the Indian government is monitoring the situation. The report quoted sources as saying that no Indian employee was killed or injured in the attack.
Even before the arrival of Taliban in Afghanistan, India had closed embassies due to security reasons.

The Indian Consulate in Jalalabad was officially closed in 2020 due to security reasons. However, a small team of Afghan nationals handles embassy related tasks.
India had invested millions of dollars in many projects in Afghanistan during the rule of former President Ashraf Ghani. However, after the arrival of Taliban in 2021, India closed all the consulates. At present the embassy is operational only in Kabul where Indian employees live.
India has not given recognition to Taliban
India has not yet recognized the Taliban regime. However, India is providing humanitarian assistance including wheat, medicines and medical aid to the Afghan people from time to time.
Taliban has been continuously demanding recognition from the world. The Taliban allege that they have fulfilled all the requirements to gain recognition. Despite this, due to pressure from America, other countries are not recognizing us.
