Anita Anand of Indian origin has been made the new Foreign Minister of Canada. He took oath of office on Tuesday.
Voting for the general election was held in Canada on 28 April. In this, Liberal Party and Prime Minister Mark Carney won. In this election, 22 candidates of Indian origin won.
Apart from Anita, 3 other Indians have been included in the cabinet of Mark Carney. Among them, Maninder Sindhu has been made ministers while Ruby Sahota and Randeep Singh Sarai were made state secretaries.
Anita’s father was from Tamil Nadu and mother from Punjab
Anita’s father was Tamil Nadu while the mother was from Punjab. However, Anita was born and raised in Nova Scotia, a rural area of Canada.
He did Arts Graduation in Political Science from Queen’s University, Arts Graduation in Judgment from Oxford University, Law Graduation from Dalhousie University and Masters from Toronto University.
57 -year -old Anita is a lawyer by profession. He won the first parliamentary election from Oakville seat in Canada in 2019.

Has held the post of Defense Minister in the last term
Anita Anand has previously held the post of Defense Minister of Canada. He was made the Defense Minister in 2021 by former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Anita is the second woman to handle Canada’s Ministry of Defense. Earlier in 1990, Kim Campbell took this responsibility. Apart from this, he was made the cabinet minister of public services and procurement this year.
Anita has also been the Associate Dean of Toronto University. She married 1995 John Notton, a Canadian lawyer and business executive. They have 4 children.
Anita Anand has been an outspoken supporter of gender equality. She supports LGBTQIA+ rights. He also took initiative to fight sexual misconduct and bring cultural changes to Canadian Defense Forces.
Liberal Party returns to power in Canada
Mark Carney of Liberal Party will remain Prime Minister in Canada. The party has won the general elections held on Monday in Canada. The party has won 167 seats. However, the party has not touched the majority figure of 172.
