The demand for Android Smartphone has decreased rapidly in India. At the same time, Apple has recorded record growth from year to year. The fascination of Indian users has been dissolved with Android smartphone, due to which the sales of overall smartphones have decreased by about 10 percent. Despite the launch of many mid and flagship smartphones including Samsung Galaxy S25 series in January, the demand of smartphones among users has been very low. At the same time, the trend of users has moved towards iPhone, due to which Apple has recorded record growth during this period.

Apple dominates

According to the Richres firm IDC’s January 2025 report, 11.1 million units of smartphones have been shipped in India in the first month of the year, which is 9.7 percent less than the January 2024 last year. Since the last quarter of 2024, there is a decrease in demand for smartphones in India. However, when talking about overall demand last year, there has been a growth of only 4 percent in smartphone shipments in India.

According to the IDC report, Apple recorded a record 11.7 percent growth in January. People have preferred to buy an iPhone compared to Android smartphones. Although Apple’s market share is much less than companies making Android smartphones, India is now becoming the most preferred market after China. The American company has also made its place in India’s Top-5 smartphone brand in the last quarter of the year.

Advantage of Make in India

Since PM Modi’s Make in India Initiative, smartphone companies have been emphasizing on manufacturing in India. All models of Apple’s latest iPhone 16 series will be made in India and will be exported outside. Talking about Android smartphone brands, all companies except Oppo have registered negative growth. Oppo’s growth in January 2025 was 5.3 percent.

Apple has recently launched the iPhone 16E in the Indian market, which has been replaced by the company in place of iPhone SE 4. It is Apple’s cheapest iPhone, which the company has introduced at an initial price of Rs 59,900. Breaking bank offers are being given by the company on the purchase of this iPhone, due to which its demand is also expected to be high.
