If you also do this, then be alert. A big cyber fraud associated with the fake version of this app has surfaced. A Mumbai professional posted on the X (Twitter) and told how the money was cheated through the cloned app. This is not the only incident. Many such cases of cheating by cloning government apps have been reported across the country. Cyber thugs send a fake APK file through WhatsApp, which includes data -like data so that it looks reliable.
How is this fraud?
A fake APK file is sent to you on WhatsApp. As soon as you download that file, the app asks you permission for SMS, Call Log, Contact and Files. If you inadvertently give permission, the hacker gets complete control of your phone. The app is like a real mparivahan app, which causes people to cheat.
What is inside this app?
The safety website called Virustotal described it as a dangerous Trojan virus. These viruses can steal information like banking details, Aadhaar, OTP, files and passwords from your phone.
How big is the danger?
Malware tracks all the banking and payment apps of your phone. This can steal your details by showing fake login screen. Files like Aadhaar, PAN, passbook scan present in the phone can also be stolen. These stolen information is sent to hackers through Telegram boats.

Not only users, in this scam, thugs reach the user’s family and contacts. In an incident in Bengaluru, it was seen that thugs tried to cheat from the mobiles of both a person and his wife.
Network of more than 900 fake apps
The US cyber security company named Zimperium has identified more than 900 such fake APK apps. These apps are especially targeting Indian Net Banking users. The company found 222 firebase storage buckets, which had more than 2.5 GB of stolen Aadhaar, bank and personal data. It is believed to be the job of an organized gang which is targeting Android users.
How to avoid such scams?
Never download APK from WhatsApp.
Download the app only from Google Play Store or government website.
Give any app permission for SMS, call, file access to any app.
If someone sends an unknown link, avoid clicking.
Complain to 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in immediately if there is cybercrime.
