Airtel’s new initiative
Airtel has launched a new initiative to prevent online fraud. The telecom operator told the government and telecom regulator TRAI that the company has proposed to come together to stop the growing online fraud. Airtel has asked all telecom companies to come together to stop calls and messages with fake scams.
Cyber crime rein in
Giving information to the telecom regulator and the government, Airtel said that in a letter to telecom operators, it has been said that in the first 9 months of 2024, complaints of more than 1.7 million, or more than 17 lakh cybercrime, have been received, due to which there is a financial loss of more than Rs 11,000 crore. Airtel is the first telecom operator to launch the AI based spam call detection feature. Through this, the company is blocking millions of cyber fraud calls and SMS every month.
This initiative of Airtel will help prevent frauds, fake loan offers, fishing links and digital identity theft using continuous new methods of cyber criminals. Airtel’s AI based fraud detection solution has been blocked due to ott apps such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram etc.
Airtel told the telecom regulator that integrated industry action should be taken to prevent telecom fraud, spam and scam. For this, telecom operators need to run a joint fraud initiative. The telecom company wrote a letter related to it to all telecom operators in October last year to prevent the unheld commercial communication (UCC).
The telecom operator said that we have written in our proposal that the centralized data sharing platform should be prepared for this which will work to improve the current distributed laser technology (DLT). The purpose of this proposal will have to be integrated and fighting with UCC.
