After China, now cases of Human Metapneumovirus i.e. HMPV have been reported in India also. ICMR has detected two cases of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in Karnataka through its routine surveillance. Let us tell you that the Central Government and various state governments in India have also become alert regarding this virus and guidelines are being issued to the officials. Apart from this, a case of HMPV has also been found in Gujarat.
Case found in 3 small children
Symptoms of HMPV virus have been reported in two infants in Karnataka. According to information received so far, a 3-month-old newborn baby with a history of bronchopneumonia, infected with the HMPV virus, was admitted to Baptist Hospital. He has been treated and discharged from the hospital. Meanwhile, an 8-month-old infant in Karnataka with a history of bronchopneumonia was also found infected with HMPV virus on January 3 in the same hospital. The baby is recovering now. Apart from this, the first case of HMPV virus has also been registered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The virus has been found in a 2-month-old baby. The child is undergoing treatment in a private hospital.
Who are at risk?
On Sunday, Andhra Pradesh government shared an update regarding HMPV virus. The Andhra Pradesh government has said in the release that the virus spreads from person to person, just like Covid-19. It mainly affects children, the elderly and individuals with weak immunity. However, no case of human metapneumovirus (HMPV) has been reported in Andhra Pradesh.
How does the infection spread?
