The AFD party leader is Alice Vide, who is in the race for the post of Chancellor this time.
General elections are to be held in Germany on 23 February. The election results this time are going to be very interesting. Chancellor Olaf Shulz’s ruling SDP alliance is badly lagging behind in pre-poll survey. For the first time in 80 years since World War II, the cutting -wing Alternative for Germany Party (AFD) has moved forward rapidly.
Right now AFD is second in the race to form the government. While this party was at number 7 in the last election. AFD is campaigning on US President Donald Trump’s election model. The party’s agenda is also on Trump’s line. This party has given the slogan of Germany First.
The growing popularity of AFD may show from the fact that this party has won a majority in two of the five provinces in the recent provincial elections. This time AFD is likely to get a record vote in the federal elections.

The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is currently leading at number one. The Green Party is going to be important when no one gets an absolute majority.
AFD popular among youth, strictness on migrants
AFD is extremely popular among the youth. About 70% of the voters under 50 years of age are talking about voting for AFD. There are a total of about 6 crore voters in Germany. AFD leader Alice Vide is known for her tough stance on the issue of migrants.
Their agenda is to cut the visa to the migrants and reconsider the relationship with the European Union. That is, if AFD is successful in forming the government, then it will increase relations with America.
Given the growing popularity of Ellis, Fedrich Merge of CDU and SDP’s Olaf Shulz are also now raising the issue of visa cuts to migrants.

This is a change in German politics. Because both these parties are in favor of easy visa.
Effect on Indians: Skill and student visa fears
AFD’s victory may overshadow Indian interests. Recently, Germany has announced the release of four times more skill visas to Indians from this year. German Chancellor Olaf Shulz said during his visit to India in October that our country needs Indian talent.
But if the radical AFD party wins in these elections, then under the policy of German First, German people will be offered jobs first. At present, Germany issues skill visas to 20 thousand Indians every year. Shulz had said to increase it to 80 thousand. Currently, 2 lakh 85 thousand Indians live in Germany.
After the formation of AFD government, work visas and permanent residents may also face problems. The number of Indian students in Germany has increased rapidly. In 2021, where there were 25 thousand Indian students, this number has increased to almost two times in 2024. Indian students in Germany are second in Europe. Indian students are in the first number in Britain.
Putin and Musk are supporting AFD party
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Tesla CEO Ellon Musk are giving open support to the cutting AFD party. Putin says that Russia’s relationship with Germany will be better with AFD coming to power. Whereas Musk says that AFD’s victory will emerge as a powerful country in Europe again. AFD’s popularity is increasing with the support of Putin-Mascits.
Bharatvanshi is also in the fray for the first time in the election. Siddharth Mudgal is contesting on the CSU party ticket. Their main issue is to create new employment opportunities for the youth here by improving Germany’s economy.
