India About 55.1 percent of the truck drivers are weak, while 53.3 percent need to improve the distant vision and 46.7 percent need to treat near vision. This information has been revealed from a report released on Tuesday. According to this report prepared by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, about 44.3 percent of drivers have body mass index (BMI) boundary line or more. Whereas in 57.4 percent, blood pressure levels have increased and 18.4 percent found blood sugar boundary line or more.
50,000 truck drivers examined
IIT Delhi has prepared this report in collaboration with the Formite Foundation. For this, a total of 50,000 truck drivers from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu were examined. The report says that about 33.9 percent of the truck drivers informed about the moderate level tension. While 2.9 percent of the high level of tension was found, which strengthens the need for mental health assistance. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said, “India is facing significant challenges in the transport sector with the increase of 70 percent traffic and transportation on roads by 14-16 percent.”
Lack of truck drivers is a big issue
Gadkari said that an important issue in front of India’s transport sector is a shortage of drivers and only 75 drivers are present on each 100 trucks. He said, “We are finding a solution to this problem by focusing on the training and welfare of drivers. We are committed to digitization and integration of the app to improve their lives. ā€¯Trucks are important means of transportation of essential items across the country. Trucks are also called the backbone of the Indian logistic sector. However, drivers driving these trucks often face difficult challenges and hard lifestyle. These include prolonged truck driving, irregular shifts, long stay away from family and various health concerns.
