A section of pilots of domestic airline company Akasa Air has demanded an investigation by the Civil Aviation Ministry into the recruitment processes of the airline. In a letter written to the ministry, these pilots have alleged rostering related issues and other lapses. According to PTI news, the pilots have also claimed that some operating crew do not report to work on time and claimed that there are problems in reporting work on time. Last Thursday, a section of pilots sent an e-mail to Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, Civil Aviation Secretary and Director General of Civil Aviation, raising various issues at the airline.
Allegations of appointments being made as per the wish of a select few
According to the news, there was no immediate comment from Akasa Air on this matter. In the e-mail, the pilots demanded an investigation into the airline’s hiring practices. He has claimed that the appointments are being made as per the wish of a select few.
Furthermore, the pilots also alleged that the airline does not have a stable roster. Recently, a section of pilots had raised concerns about alleged training and safety issues at the airline, although the airline dismissed them as baseless and untrue.
Akasa Air is under constant investigation
Aakash Air, which has been flying for more than two years, has come under regulatory scrutiny in recent months due to some lapses. The new year has begun and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has withdrawn till further orders the sanction of Line Training Captain given to the pilot of Akasa Air for lapse in landing of passenger aircraft in March 2024.
In December, the DGCA ordered suspension of the airline’s director of operations and training director for six months for alleged lapses in the training of pilots. In October last year, the airline was fined Rs 30 lakh by the DGCA for certain lapses in crew training.
