Share Market Today: There was a huge fall in Indian stock markets on Tuesday 21 January. Sensex fell 1,235 points. At the same time, Nifty dropped by 300 points and came near 23,000. Due to this, investors lost about Rs 7.5 lakh crore in the stock market today. After Donald Trump became the President of America, increased uncertainty and weak quarterly results of companies have increased the uneasiness among investors. Trump announced imposition of 100% tariffs on Canada and Mexico on the very first day. At the same time, it has warned of imposing tariffs on BRICS countries including India if they take action against the dollar.
There was an outcry in the Broader market also today. Both BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices fell 2 per cent. Yes, even all the sectoral indices closed in the red. The biggest decline was seen in realty, consumer durables, IT and banking stocks.
At the end of trading, BSE Sensex closed at 75,838.36, up 1,235.08 points or 1.60 per cent. Whereas NSE’s 50-share index, Nifty closed at 23,045.30 with a rise of 299.45 points or 1.28 per cent.
Investors lost ₹7.48 lakh crore
The total market capitalization of companies listed on BSE decreased to Rs 424.11 lakh crore today on January 21, which was Rs 431.59 lakh crore on its previous trading day i.e. Monday, January 20. In this way, the market cap of companies listed in BSE has decreased by about Rs 7.48 lakh crore today. Or in other words, the wealth of investors has declined by about Rs 7.48 lakh crore.
These 5 Sensex stocks fell the most
28 out of 30 BSE Sensex stocks closed with losses today. In this too, Zomato shares were the top loser with a fall of 10.92 percent. Whereas, shares of NTPC, Adani Ports, ICICI Bank and State Bank of India (SBI) saw a decline of 2.57 per cent to 3.51 per cent.
Only 2 Sensex shares closed in the green.
The fall in the market was so sharp that only 2 out of 30 Sensex stocks closed in the green today. Shares of Ultratech Cement closed 0.76 percent higher and HCL Tech shares closed 0.49 percent higher.

2,503 shares declined
The number of shares closed with losses on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) today. A total of 4,088 shares were traded on the exchange today. Out of these, 1,187 shares closed with gains. A decline was seen in 2,788 shares. While 113 shares closed flat without any fluctuations. Apart from this, 103 shares touched their new 52-week high during trading today. Whereas 67 shares touched their new 52-week low.
