The franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), which included Rishabh Pant in the team for a record amount in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, is all set to make this star wicketkeeper of India its next captain today i.e. on 20th January. LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka has called the media for an exclusive interview without revealing anything. During this time, the team’s new jersey is also likely to be unveiled.
LSG had bought Pant for Rs 27 crores. Pant has led Delhi Capitals in IPL. Earlier, Indian batsman KL Rahul had led this franchise, which came into existence in 2022, for three seasons. However, the franchise did not retain him. This team of Lucknow was ranked seventh in the 2024 season.
Captain will be revealed today
The team had retained Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Ayush Badoni and Mohsin Khan while in the auction, it had successfully bid for David Miller, Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram as well as Indian fast bowlers Akash Deep and Avesh Khan. After the auction, Puran, Marsh, Markram and Miller were also considered as possible candidates for captaincy but it is understood that the team wants to give this responsibility to an Indian. Before IPL 2025, 6 out of 10 franchises have announced their captains. The teams whose captains have not been revealed yet include the teams of KKR, RCB, LSG and Delhi Capitals.
