On January 2, the lower court of Chittagong had rejected the bail plea of Chinmay Das.
In Bangladesh, the bail hearing of Hindu saint Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari can be held in the High Court today i.e. on Monday. Chinmoy Das is accused of insulting the national flag of Bangladesh. In this matter, a case of treason was registered and he was arrested on 25 November 2024.
Earlier on January 2, the lower court of Chittagong had rejected his bail plea. After this, Chinmay Das’s lawyer Apoorva Kumar Bhattacharya filed an application for bail in the High Court on January 12.
During the hearing on January 2, lawyer Apoorva Bhattacharya had told the court that Chinmay Das respects the Bangladeshi flag and considers Bangladesh as his motherland. He is not a traitor. Chinmay Das has been a vocal supporter of the rights of religious minorities in Bangladesh.

Sant Chinmoy Das was arrested on 25 November
Bangladesh Police had arrested Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on November 25 last year. Then he was going to Chittagong. ISKCON members present at the spot said that the DB police did not show any arrest warrant. They just said they wanted to talk. After this they took him in the microbus.
Rezaul Karim Mallick, additional police commissioner of the detective branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested following a request from the police. Chinmoy Das will be handed over to the concerned police station for legal process.

Who is Saint Chinmoy Prabhu?
The real name of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari is Chandan Kumar Dhar. He is the head of Chittagong ISKCON. PM Sheikh Hasina left the country on 5 August 2024 amid the ongoing violence in Bangladesh. After this, violent incidents took place against Hindus on a large scale.
After this, Sanatan Jagran Manch was formed to protect the interests of Bangladeshi Hindus and minorities. Chinmoy Prabhu became its spokesperson. Through Sanatan Jagran Manch, Chinmay addressed several rallies in Chittagong and Rangpur. Thousands of people participated in it.
Why was Chinmay Prabhu arrested?
On October 25, Natan Jagran Manch held a rally at Laldighi Ground in Chittagong with 8-point demands. This was also addressed by Chinmoy Krishna Das. During this time, some people hoisted the saffron flag on the Azadi Pillar at New Market Chowk. Aami Sanatani was written on this flag.
After the rally, on October 31, Begum Khaleda Zia’s BNP party leader Firoz Khan had filed a treason case in Chittagong against 19 people including Chinmoy Krishna Das. He is accused of insulting the national flag.

Attacks on Hindus are increasing continuously in Bangladesh
Anti-India sentiments have gained strength in Bangladesh after the fall of Sheikh Hasina government on 5 August 2024. Apart from this, religious places associated with minorities are being continuously targeted. Hindu leaders are receiving threats. Chinmoy Das has been raising the issue of security of Hindu temples for a long time.
