The National Sports Awards ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday, where some prominent players from the sports world were honoured. On this occasion, President Draupadi Murmu honored two Olympic medalist shooter Manu Bhaker and world chess champion D Gukesh with the Major Dhyan Chand Khelratna Award. Both these players were awarded this honor amidst thunderous applause, which shows their hard work. Manu Bhaker has brought glory to the country in the Olympics, while D Gukesh Chess recently won the Chess Championship title.
Harmanpreet was also honored
Apart from this, Indian men’s hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh was also awarded the country’s highest sporting honour. Harmanpreet Singh was part of the Indian hockey team that won bronze medals in the Tokyo and Paris Olympics and also led the team in the Paris Olympics. Under his leadership, Indian hockey achieved great success, and he fully deserves this honour.
Para athletes also got respect
In the same ceremony, Paralympic gold medalist high jump player Praveen Kumar was also given the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. Praveen Kumar had won a silver medal in the Tokyo Olympics and he won a gold medal in the Paris Olympics, which is a symbol of his dedication and hard work. His life has been full of struggles, especially the achievements he has achieved despite the physical disorder associated with his birth are quite inspiring.
This time 32 players were honored with the Arjuna Award, out of which 17 were para athletes. The Arjuna awardees included Paris Olympics bronze medalist wrestler Aman Sehrawat, shooters Swapnil Kusale, Sarabjot Singh, and men’s hockey team members Jarmanpreet Singh, Sukhjeet Singh, Sanjay and Abhishek. The success of these players proves that steps are being taken towards continuous improvement in the Indian sports world. These players have made the country proud with their hard work, dedication and struggle and their achievements are not only the result of their individual efforts but also symbolize the strong foundation of Indian sporting culture.
