Port Blair: Andaman and Nicobar Police had recently seized the country’s largest consignment of drugs till date. Its price in the international market was around Rs 36 thousand crores. The police have now started destroying it. The drugs are so dangerous that they were not burnt in the open. These drugs were burnt in the pyre. If it was burnt in the open or buried by digging soil, it would cause a lot of pollution which could pose a threat to people. Therefore it was burnt in the fire of the pyre.
This was monitored by DGP HGS Dhaliwal himself. During this, Jitendra Meena, SSP (CID), Mohd. Irshad Haider, SP (Headquarters) and police officer Geeta Rani Verma were also present.

Representatives of major agencies like Pollution Control Board, GB Pant Hospital are also monitoring its destruction. Police said that this initiative follows the directions of the Honorable Supreme Court of India. The demolition process was carefully recorded on video.
6000 kg of methamphetamine was recovered
Let us tell you that in the last week of December 2024, the police had recovered about 6000 kg of methamphetamine. Its international price is around Rs 36000 crore. HGS Dhaliwal expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Indian Coast Guard and all other stakeholders for their invaluable support in making this operation and subsequent destruction a success.
Six people were arrested
The police started the operation when a Navy aircraft detected a suspicious fishing vessel near Barron Island. During investigation, huge quantity of illegal drugs were found. Police had arrested six foreign nationals in this case. These drugs were kept in 222 plastic bags.
