P Jayachandran died on January 9 at the age of 80. Jayachandran sang more than 16,000 songs in a career spanning more than six decades. He was known in India and abroad for his melodious voice. Jayachandran breathed his last while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thrissur. He was unwell for a long time. While famous poet, MP and filmmaker Pritish Nandy breathed his last on January 8, 2025, there is mourning in the cinema world after hearing the news of Jayachandran’s death. His fans are paying tribute to the singer by sharing posts on social media.

Jayachandran, popularly known as ‘Bhav Gayakan’, has left a remarkable legacy for Indian music lovers. Known for his soulful and soulful voice, Jayachandran created a special place in people’s hearts by lending his voice to many songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. Apart from films, he also composed many devotional songs, which made him one of the most popular in Indian playback history. Jayachandran started his career as a playback singer in 1965 with the song ‘Oru Mullappumalmay’ from the film ‘Kunjali Marakkar’. This song was written by P Bhaskaran and composed by Chidambaranath. Director A Vincent then heard Jayachandran’s voice at a concert in Madras and recommended him to music director G Devarajan. After this, he got a chance to sing the song ‘Manjalayil Mungi Torthi’ from the film ‘Kalithojan’ in 1967 and this song of Jayachandran proved to be a milestone in his career.
