According to Finance Ministry data, by September 2025, public sector banks (PSBs) have approved more than 5.79 lakh applications under the scheme, amounting to ₹10,907 crore.
What is PM Surya Ghar Yojana?
PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme (PMSGMBY) is an ambitious initiative of the Central Government. Under this, the aim is to provide free electricity every month to the common people by installing solar panels on the roofs of the houses. Under this scheme, eligible families will get up to 300 units of free electricity.
The government is giving up to 40 percent subsidy for installation of solar panels, so that the burden on electricity bills can be reduced and every household can become self-sufficient in energy. Along with this, people can also earn income by selling excess electricity to the grid.
Interest on loan more than ₹2 lakh
An interest rate of 6% is applicable on loans up to ₹2 lakh. Whereas for loans ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹6 lakh, the interest rate is decided in two ways. If you have taken a home loan, the interest rate will be the same as on your existing home loan. Customers without home loan will have to pay 1% (100 basis points) more than the home loan interest rate.
Main benefits of PM Surya Ghar Yojana
The biggest advantage of PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme is subsidy. You will get a subsidy of ₹ 30,000 per kilowatt on solar systems up to 2 kilowatts. Apart from this, additional subsidy of ₹ 18,000 per kW is given on additional capacity up to 3 kW. At the same time, a total subsidy of up to ₹ 78,000 is available on large capacity systems i.e. solar systems of more than 3 kW. something else besides

How to apply for loan
First of all you have to register on PM Surya Ghar portal (https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in/). After this complete your application and then click on ‘Apply for Loan’. Through this, further process will be completed on JanSamarth portal.
Step by step process of registration
step 1: Visit the official website of PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme.
Step 2: Go to ‘Apply Now’ or ‘Consumer Login’ on the ‘Consumer’ page.
Step 3: Enter the registered mobile number and captcha, then click on ‘Verify’.
Step 4: Enter the OTP received on mobile and click on ‘Login’.
Step 5: Fill in the information like your name, email, address, state, district and pin code and ‘Save’.
Application for solar panel installation
After completing the registration process, you can click on ‘Apply for Solar Rooftop’ or submit the application through ‘Vendor Selection’. You can also apply by selecting State, District and Electricity Distribution Company/Utility.
After this enter your consumer account number and click on ‘Fetch Details’. Once your consumer details are loaded, click on ‘Next’ to start filling the application form and submit.
