The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has taken a big decision which will benefit about 6 crore children in the country. The facility of biometric update in the Aadhaar card of all children in the age group of 5 to 17 years from 1 October 2025 has been completely made free. This step will be applicable for one year and this will make it easier to keep children’s biometric data updated.
Fingerprints and iris biometrics are not taken in Aadhaar enrollment for children under five years of age, but as soon as the child is 5 years old, he has to make the first compulsory biometric update (MBU). Similarly, a second update is necessary at the age of 15 years. This leads to the child’s fingerprints, iris and photos updates and their Aadhaar records accurate.
Earlier, Rs 125 per update was charged for biometric updates, but this update was still free for children aged 5 to 7 and 15 to 17. Now UIDAI has made it free for children aged 5 to 17. This will make this process easier for parents and parents and the children’s base data will be updated from time to time.
This step will help children take advantage of government schemes like enrollment in school, registration in competitive examinations, scholarships and direct benefit transfer (DBT). Also, it will also be helpful in maintaining easy and constant access to Aadhaar services.
UIDAI has urged all parents and parents to prioritize their children’s base biometric updates so that they can fully benefit from education and social schemes without any difficulty. This policy is an important effort to make the base more accessible, economical and useful for children.
