From November 15, there will be a toll charge on vehicles without fastag, payment from UPI will cost 1.25 times the fee – toll charges for vehicles without fast

The government has made a major change in the toll fee rules for vehicles without fastag running on national highways. From 15 November 2025, vehicles that will pay cash at toll plazas will have to pay double the toll fee. At the same time, vehicles who pay through UPI or any digital medium will have to pay only 1.25 times. The move aims to promote digital payments and bring transparency in the toll collection process.

New rules and influence of toll charges

If thought, if the toll fee is Rs 100 on payment from Fastag, then it will increase to Rs 200 on cash payment. In contrast, it will increase to Rs 125 to Rs 125 when paid from Digital Medium such as UPI. This change is much better than the previous rules, where earlier both cash and digital payments were doubly charged.

Increasing importance of digital payment

Digital payments will have to reduce the wait on tolls, as well as ensure this transparency for the government. The government intention is to encourage passengers to adopt fastag or digital payments. This will also benefit the environment because toll crossing will reduce pollution without less jam and stop.

What will be the effect?

This rule will bring a big change for those travelers who did not get Fastag till now and paid cash. They will have to either have to get fastag or it will be more economical to give toll through digital payment. At the same time, there will be a decrease in crowds and jams on toll plazas, which will improve traffic management on the national highways of the country.

Government order

The Ministry of Road Transport has clarified that this change was necessary to promote the use of modern technology, bring transparency in toll operations and improve the journey of passengers. From November 15, these new rules will be applicable across the country and all passengers are requested to immediately get Fastag or opt for digital payments so that they can avoid higher charges.
