The Uttar Pradesh government has declared a public holiday in the entire state on 7 October 2025 on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti. On this day, all government departments, schools, colleges of the state will remain closed. This holiday has been released as per the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the demand of Valmiki society. However, this holiday will not be applicable to banks and financial institutions, so that economic activities will run normally.
Banks will also be closed?
The government has clarified that this holiday will not come under the Nigoshiabul Instruction Act 1881, so the banks will be open. The day of Valmiki Jayanti is reminiscent of the biography and literary contribution of Maharishi Valmiki, which is also considered the author of Ramayana. On this day special programs and rituals are organized to promote social harmony and spirituality.
The law and order of Uttar Pradesh has improved significantly. In the 2023 report of the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the number of communal riots in UP has been recorded zero. Due to the zero tolerance policy of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the crime rate in the state is 25% less than the national average. Crimes like Balwa, Kidnapping and Robbery have also declined, due to which UP has become an example in the country in terms of law and order.
Police administration’s activism
The administration has succeeded in maintaining law and order by making additional security arrangements in sensitive areas. Measures like flag march, drone monitoring have improved peace in the state. Due to the strict action of the Yogi government, a better environment is also being created for investment and business in the state.
